Disabled Access and Facilities for Guests
The Community aim to welcome all who come to the gate in the spirit of the Rule of St Benedict. In today’s age all are aware of the need to provide as much help to the disabled as is reasonably possible. With this in mind we are anxious to provide access to the principal areas of our hospitality and conference facilities
With this in view we have made good access to the Church and to the principle accommodation, The Grange. There are ramps and guided pathways both without and inside. There is also a lift to the principal level in the church and ramps into the monks’ choir. In addition, on the ground floor of The Grange there is an en-suite double room.
All of the above facilities help to mitigate the difficult terrain of the Abbey and College which for the severely disabled and very elderly could be a challenge. We try to help such people by providing an electric scooter and manual wheelchair. Guests who feel that they need further assistance should ring the Hospitality Office well before their intended visit to check further details.
Guide Dogs and Hearing Aid Dogs are welcome but other pets are not. Hearing Aid loops are in place in the church and speaking venues and can be activated on request. There is some Disabled Parking behind the monastery building at the lower end of the drive.
